About 11th Class (Sr. Secondary)
Gujarat State Open School - Class 11th (Senior Secondary Level)
The Senior Secondary Education (11th Class) programme under Gujarat State Open School (GSOS)
is equivalent to Class XI of the formal school system. This course is designed for students who
have passed their Secondary (10th) examination and wish to pursue higher secondary education
through open and distance learning mode. GSOS offers multiple streams with a wide range of
subjects to cater to diverse career aspirations.
The Senior Secondary level is a crucial turning point in a student's academic journey as it
determines the career path ahead. GSOS provides flexibility to choose subjects from different
streams, allowing students to create a customized combination that aligns with their future
goals. The programme is recognized by all Indian universities and boards.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum age: 16 years as on 31st July of the admission year.
- There is no upper age limit for admission to 11th class.
- The candidate must have passed 10th class from a recognized board (GSOS/CBSE/State Board/Any recognized board).
- Students who have passed 10th class from NIOS or any other open school are also eligible.
- There is no minimum percentage requirement for admission.
Available Streams & Subject Combinations
Students can choose subjects from any stream to create their own combination. A minimum of
5 subjects including one language is required. Maximum 7 subjects can be selected.

Subject Selection Guidelines
- A student must select at least one language subject (Hindi, English, Gujarati or Sanskrit).
- Maximum two language subjects can be chosen.
- Students can choose subjects from any stream (cross-stream combination allowed).
- Practical subjects require lab attendance at designated study centers.
- Subject change is allowed within 45 days of admission.
Scheme of Studies
- The course duration is minimum 1 year and maximum 5 years for completion.
- Students can complete the course at their own pace within the maximum time limit.
- Study materials (Self Learning Material - SLM) are provided in Hindi, English & Gujarati medium.
- Personal Contact Programmes (PCP) are conducted at study centers (minimum 30 sessions per subject).
- Credit transfer facility available for students migrating from other recognized boards.
- Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) are mandatory and carry weightage in final evaluation.
- Students who have passed 10th can take direct admission in 11th class.

Required Documents for 11th Admission:
- 10th Class Marksheet & Passing Certificate (Original + 2 attested copies)
- Date of Birth Proof (Birth Certificate / 10th Certificate)
- Recent Passport Size Photographs (6 copies)
- Address Proof (Aadhar Card / Voter ID / Passport)
- Caste Certificate (for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates)
- Migration Certificate (if applicable)
- Gap Certificate (if there is a gap in studies, on affidavit)
Examination Pattern
- Public examinations are conducted twice a year (April-May and October-November).
- Theory paper: 80 marks | TMA/Practical: 20 marks (Total: 100 marks per subject).
- Minimum pass marks: 33% overall (Theory + TMA/Practical combined).
- Students must score minimum 33% in theory and 33% in practical separately (where applicable).
- Students can appear for one or more subjects as per their preparation level.
- There is no limit on number of attempts within the maximum course duration.
- Students who fail in any subject can reappear in the next examination.
